All About Waco: A Fall Day Trip

Friday, November 10, 2017

We are very fortunate here in Austin to have some great family-friendly day trips at our disposal. I don’t know about you, but I love the idea of being able to spend the day somewhere fun while having the option to stay overnight or return home to my own bed. Waco, Texas is about two hours away from Austin depending on where you are located, and it is home to many fantastic, family-friendly activities. If you’re looking for a great fall day trip, here are some of our favorite things to do with kids in Waco:

Magnolia Market at the Silos: Raise your hand if you’re a Fixer Upper fan! The beloved Magnolia Market is a great place to shop, eat, and generally hang out with your family. With a beautiful lawn boasting games and swings that happens to be situated near some food trucks, this makes for a great spot that your entire family will love.

Cameron Park Zoo: If your kids are animal lovers, this great zoo encompasses over 300 species but still feels intimate enough to enjoy a stress-free day trip. With everything from giraffes to elephants and even some bald eagles, this zoo has some neat animals that your kids might not have seen outside of their story books!

Dr. Pepper Museum: Yes, this is where the original Dr. Pepper was created! There’s even a Dr. Pepper Happy Hour and gift shop.

Waco Mammoth National Monument: This little piece of history right here in Texas is pretty cool for the kid that loves all things prehistoric. Kids can visit fully preserved Columbian mammoths, and the center offers guided tours complete with an educational component about the Ice Age.

Mayborn Museum: This great museum is right on the Baylor University campus and features amazing exploration stations and dioramas. It is very hands on and is both educational and fun for kids of all ages.

Waco Tour: Do you want to see as much of Waco as possible? This 2.5 hour tour stops at some must-see places and will give you a great feel for the town.

What do you think, Austin parents? Are you planning a trip to Waco soon?
