Fall Mini Sessions with Melanie Applegate Photography

Friday, September 8, 2017

It's almost the first official day of fall! Even though it's still summer weather here in Texas, that doesn't stop us from thinking about all things pumpkin. As we prepare for the upcoming holiday season, we begin to think about holiday cards and family photos. Now is the best time to get them done! Have you heard of a mini session? If coordinating an entire shoot overwhelms you, a mini session is a great option -- especially for a holiday card! Melanie Applegate of Melanie Applegate Photography here in Austin shares more about mini sessions and what makes them a great option for many families.

What is a mini session?

Simply put, a mini-session is the abbreviated form of a standard photo session. A mini-session typically takes place at one location with a shoot time of 15-30 minutes, allows for one outfit, and provides up to seven digital images, which will be lightly retouched. It also includes an online proofing gallery. The investment is significantly less than for a full shoot.

Why would someone want to partake in a mini session over a full shoot?

If you just want a few shots to capture a milestone event or are on a limited budget, a mini-session would be perfect for you. They are also a great opportunity to take pictures for upcoming events or holiday cards.

What are some tips you have for families to make the most out of their mini sessions?

To make the most out of your mini-session, you should be prepared. First, make sure to coordinate outfits. Any way you can complement one another (in style or color) will help you nail the perfect portrait. Choose an outfit that gives you confidence, and don’t be afraid to accessorize. Your clothes should be pressed, and shoes should be clean. Keep your hair and makeup natural.

Once you arrive on location, just relax! I do my best to make sure everyone feels comfortable and has a wonderful experience. Ultimately, it’s all about the sweet moments between you and your family. Nothing will stop me from capturing that.

Ask yourself this question: What do you want to do with these pictures? Picture how these photos will look in your home for years to come.

About Melanie:

Melanie is a spontaneous, fun-loving Texas native. After spending most of her life in College Station (Gig ‘Em Aggies), she was lucky enough to land in Austin in 2005. She is a natural light lifestyle photographer who is passionate about documenting this beautiful life. She met her husband Ross, a football and golf-loving Georgia boy, back in 2012. They married in 2013 and now have two beautiful girls, Emily (2013) and Callie (2016). Most days, you can find Mel adventuring around town with her mini #girltribe. When she has a little time to herself, it is most likely spent at the yoga studio (good vibes only). She also loves running around the downtown trail, listening to live music, eating mexican food, traveling, and soaking up the sunshine.
